We previously spoke about the Acer Swift 5 and thought that it was likely to be the best in the field. But when Acer released the latest rendition of the Swift series, Acer Swift 7 in 2019, they broke the standards and achieved the impossible once again.
With Swift 7, an impossibly light and thin laptop was born – weighing even lighter than some tablet devices out there. Despite its size, the Acer Swift 7 is certainly no lightweight in terms of performance and features.

Good things can come in small packages and the Acer Swift 7 is living proof. The laptop is incredibly thin and light, without compromise on any capabilities. At just 890g, don’t be surprised if you forget that you’re carrying the device that Acer markets as feather-light portability personified. The quality and finish are maintained at a high standard by a magnesium alloy chassis which is stronger compared to other materials like aluminium. Available in either black or white, both colours look sleek and professional.

The Swift 7 doesn’t ‘cheat’ when it comes to its ultra-thin profile. There are no chunky parts or bulges that stick out from the laptop lids. The hinge is seamless and stays flush with the rest of the laptop which further adds to its stylish and classy aesthetic. So what are we actually talking about when we say it is impossibly thin? 9.95mm.
I love the thinness but I worry about losing it in a pile of documents and files on my messy table. A ring file is easily thicker than the Acer Swift 7, so just imagine how well it will blend into the mess on my table. But I’m not complaining, really, since I mostly bring it around for work instead of actually doing any productive work at home.
Almost ‘Bezel-less’

Bezels are ditched in this model as it features a ZeroFrame Display with a screen-to-body ratio of 92%. The thin bezels are unnoticeable along the 14-inch full HD IPS (in-plane switching) screen frame as you immerse yourself with the Swift 7. The Full HD (1920×1080) display is bright, sharp and ensures comfortable viewing for both work and entertainment.
If you’re a workaholic like me, you will appreciate the Corning® Gorilla® Glass 6 touchscreen which is both durable and tactile. The responsive touchscreen comes in handy for me when I’m switching through multiple applications and documents at one go. Plus, it is able to protect the display from any cracks from minor bumps and rough handling.
Compact Performer

Processing on the Acer Swift 7 is handled by a fanless 8th Gen Intel® Core i7 processor. The Intel Core i7-8500Y chipset processor ensures your device remains silent as it handles different applications and media. Heavy users will find switching between applications to be an absolute breeze thanks to the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage on the SSD.
With such a light device there are bound to be some limitations. The chipset gets the job done, but if you’re looking to use it for video rendering, editing and graphic design, this is probably not the best choice.
In terms of battery life, the 2770 mAh battery lasts for up to 12 hours while you’re on the go. Good enough for a whole day out where it is tough to find a charging point or when you’re stuck in a series of back-to-back meetings.
2 is Better than 1

Connectivity is extremely important to me as I use an external hard drive while also connecting to a secondary monitor at home or in the office. Thus, I was relieved that not only did the Acer Swift 7 come with 2 USB-C ports, but both ports support Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 and Display Port 1.2. I can easily connect my external hard drive and transfer files at up to 40Gbps which is insanely fast.
Another neat feature that comes with this Acer device is the Gigabit Wi-Fi which comes with 2×2 MU-MIMO technology. What this means is that the Swift 7 will be able to strengthen the connection to weaker Wi-FI signals. This comes in handy when you have to connect to Wi-Fi in a public area like a cafe and sometimes the internet signal is barely there.
Other Defining Factors

Hidden Webcam
In an attempt to keep the screen-to-body ratio high and bezels impossibly thin, the webcam is instead installed in the main body of the laptop at the end of the keyboard. It is hidden from sight when not in use and pops up from the body of the laptop when you activate it. However, due to its placement, the webcam doesn’t deliver the most flattering views of you when in a video call. So take note of any flared nostrils or double chin(s)!
Fingerprint scanner
There is a fingerprint scanner located below the keyboard which can be used as both a log-in verification and a power button. This feature helps to elevate the convenience of your experience.

The Laptop That Literally Takes The Weight Off Your Shoulders.
The Swift 7 is nothing spectacular in terms of performance or features but it is undeniably thin and light for a laptop with its capabilities. Users who regularly commute or lug around a work laptop will most likely not be able to find something better than this.
